• A study of an aspect or theme in British history that extends pupils’ chronological knowledge beyond 1066: changes in an aspect of social history, such as the right to vote.
• A significant turning point in British history, for example, WWII or 1928 (women right to vote).

• Britain as the first industrial nation – the impact on society; party politics, extension of the franchise and social reform.

• How did the workers feel about their jobs at Newman Brothers?
• Who were the most important people in the history of Newman Brothers? What qualities did they share with each other?
• What jobs were available at Newman Brothers? Which do you think would be the best and which would be the worst?

• What made Newman Brothers the best, of the best?
• Why was it important to save Newman Brothers?
• How did Newman Brothers treat their workers? Was it a good place to work?
• How was Newman Brothers changed from a working factory to a museum?

• Write a biography on one of the workers from Newman Brothers.
• You have been chosen to decide on the five most important people in the UK. These five people will be given the best of Newman Brothers’ coffin fittings at their funeral. You must fully explain each of your choices.
• Write a diary entry as Joyce Green on the day that she took over the running of Newman Brothers.
• Write an application to apply for a job at Newman Brothers. What special skills do you have that would benefit the factory? What job would you like to do?
